Air pollution is a big problem in big cities. Evidence shows that air pollution
may cause serious health problems for humans and animals. We (I) .......... more health problems if we do not
lower the air pollution levels. There are some simple
actions we can take to REDUCE air pollution.
First, get familiar with bus or train ROUTES in your city (2) ......... start to replace your motorbike travel with a bus trip at

Flow can we save the planet?
This is a
very difficult question. We certainly need national and local governments to
spend money on big projects. But every one of us should help every day. Here are a few problems and some solutions.
•Water
pollution is a very big problem. If dirty water gels into rivers, it can cause
problems for fish, if people eat the fish, they may catch (1)........ . Il you see dirty water going into a
river, tell your local government. We should all help to (2) .......... our freshwater.
•We must

•Trash looks horrible in parks and open spaces, but it is
also dangerous. It can kill (4) ........... if it
contains things which poison animals, and animals can die if they eat plastic,
glass, or metal. Take your trash home!
•Also, try to make less food trash! Did you know that 33% of
all food around the world goes into trash cans? Don’t buy too much food and
then (5) ...........a lot of it.
We can save the planet, day by
day!

causes a lot of damage when it goes over land. It’s called a (3) .......... .
There’s

Next week,
we will learn about the(5) .......... of
natural disasters, which will be very interesting. Do you want to come and watch it

sentences are True or False
TEXT A -WHAT IS A TSUNAMI
A tsunami is
a string of large ocean waves. Some people call it a “wave train" or a
"tidal wave." Tsunamis, unlike normal ocean waves, are not caused by
tides. The word tsunami comes from the Japanese. Tsunamis are caused by a
sudden, large motion on the ocean floor. They can be caused by an earthquake
under the ocean. Sometimes an underwater landslide or volcano is the cause.
When one of these tilings happens, the energy passes through the ocean water.
Just like the ripples from a rock being thrown into a pond, the energy released
by one of these motions spreads Olli in all directions.
The energy can travel many miles away. Tsunamis
move at high speeds. Most tsunamis happen in the Pacific Ocean. In the deep
walers, a tsunami may travel -150 miles per hour. Out in the ocean, a tsunami
may be hard to see. As it comes close to shore, its speed slows down. The
height of the wave builds. The tsunami may suddenly rise into a wave ten to one
hundred feet high. These large waves are a disaster for coastal regions and
people living there. Tsunami warning networks alert people living along
coastlines in the Pacific Ocean. When a warning is sounded, people can move
away from the coast to higher ground. The
wavelength can be as long as 150 miles. This means the time (wave period)
between the giant waves is long, too. Giant waves on shore call last for hours
or even days alter the earthquake or other disturbance.
1. "Wave
train" or "tidal wave" is another term for tsunami.
2. Tsunamis
often come from Japan.
3. A tsunami
may be hard to see because it may travel 450 miles per hour.
4. Only people
living along coastlines in the Pacific Ocean are alerted with tsunami warning
networks.
5. Big waves on
shore can last very' long after the earthquake.

Most of the time.
I write about blizzards, typhoons, floods, and so on. But I
don't ski in a blizzard or get wet in a flood. Well, this week's blog is
different, because (his time I was there when something big happened!
1 was on
holiday in an area which has earthquakes. I knew (hat before I went. But (he
last big earthquake there happened 50 years ago. so I didn't really think about
it when 1 booked.
During the
first few days. I went swimming every morning in the warm sea and then, in the
afternoon, I walked up the side of the mountain behind the town. 1 didn't climb
over rocks or anything like that. I just walked slowly up a few hundred meters
on one of the old donkey tracks.
On the
afternoon of the fifth day. I was on the mountain w hen the ground started to
move. I remembered about the earthquakes then, and I thought, 'The ground will
open up and i'll fall ill.' Then I looked down al the town and saw a huge wave
coming very fast towards it. Houses near the beach disappeared under the water.
I was safe on the side of the mountain, but my hotel fell down and I lost all
my stuff.

3. One of the
